Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been far from happy with Vincent Janssen’s contribution this season, but opinions seemed to change on Wednesday night when his sublime assist helped the team earn a comeback win over Swansea City.

The Dutchman has had very little game time since moving to White Hart Lane from AZ in a £17m deal last summer.

In fact, the 22-year-old has started just 11 games in all competitions and has scored five goals, with only one coming from open play.

Janssen was always going to be in Harry Kane’s shadow when he arrived at White Hart Lane, but he has failed to contend for a regular starting spot.

On Wednesday night, though, he showed glimpses of what he is capable of and his assist for Son Heung-min’s goal is sure to have caught the eye of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The significance of his involvement was key too, as he came off the bench in the second half and helped Son nab the goal that gave Spurs the lead.

Tottenham were trailing after Wayne Routledge’s 11th-minute goal, and an equaliser came from Dele Alli with two minutes of normal time left on the clock.

During injury time, Janssen flicked a pass through the legs of the defender to find Son, who sent the ball nestling into the back of the net.

Christian Eriksen wrapped up the victory with a goal of his own two minutes later.

After the match, fans were quick to tweet praise for Janssen.

Ronald Koeman’s rather public spat with the Republic of Ireland took another sour turn over the course of the break, with Seamus Coleman horrificallyÂbreaking his leg against Wales in the recent World Cup qualifier.

Though James McCarthy was pulled from the game, those at Goodison Park are seemingly still frustrated that the midfielder was even considered for it, while there are also doubts about the fitness of Ramiro Funes Mori after being stretchered off against Bolivia for the Argentine national side.

Morgan Schniederlin is another doubt with a calf problem, leaving the Toffees a little light.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have injury concerns themselves. Adam Lallana was a victim of his own international exploits by injuring his thigh with England, while Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren continue to miss out.

Daniel Sturridge, as ever, is a doubt too with a hip injury.

Referee

Anthony Taylor has the rather unenvious task of officiating the game on Saturday and his appointment only adds fuel to the fire. Taylor has brandished four red cards this season (the second highest in the division), along with 97 yellow ones, the highest in the Premier League.

With this game producing the most dismissals of any in Premier League history, tempers are always likely to boil over when the two meet on the banks of the River Mersey, so Taylor will likely have his work cut ou for him indeed.

Perhaps a good omen for Liverpool is that in his 23 games this season, there’s a 42.9% win rate for the home side.

Despite the injuries, one of the major criticisms of Klopp’s project at Anfield has been his perceived lack of having a Plan B. While Lallana is crucial to the high pressing nature of their midfield, Klopp is unlikely to change much in his setup, with Emre Can deployed ahead of Lucas Leiva instead.

An injury-hit Everton will have to make use of their squad. One of the most impressive engine rooms in the Premier League when everyone is fit, missing the likes of Schneiderlin and McCarthy is a huge blow to Ronald Koeman.

Seamus Coleman’s absence on the right-hand side will compromise Everton’s attacking enterprise somewhat, though England outcast Ross Barkley appears to be enjoying the freedom he has when drifting in from the right.

Manager quotes Prediction

Jurgen Klopp’s record in the big games speaks for itself. Unbeaten this season against the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds relish the big occasion.

While Lallana’s absence will seriously impact their heavy metal brand of football, Everton’s injury concerns are far more concerning. Without Coleman overlapping Barkley, the Toffees lose a sense of balance down the right, space Sadio Mane is likely to exploit.

The left-back has been linked with a move to Manchester City in recent months despite being out through injury since January, and the England international believes Spurs must make a marquee signing this summer to help their bid to win the Premier League title as well as advancing further in the Champions League next term.

The 26-year-old also said the he feels some players ‘might fancy a change’ as teammate Kyle Walker continues to also be linked with a move to link up with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

As reported by The Daily Record, former Mexico and Atletico Madrid star Luis Garcia has given the thumbs up on Carlos Pena’s reported move to Rangers this summer.

What’s the story?

Garcia made 79 appearances for his country in the 1990s, netting on the international stage an impressive 29 times including goals in the World Cup and Copa America.

Now a TV pundit in his homeland, he’s given his thoughts on midfielder Carlos Pena’s reported imminent move to Rangers, believing that despite his off the field problems, he has what it takes to be a success in Glasgow.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Garcia said:

Pedro is a cultured, innovative coach. He’s successful because he takes risks. He isn’t intimidated by the challenge of rehabilitating the career of Carlos Pena. Despite his troubles, I firmly believe in Carlos. He is still a very good footballer who can control games. He was at one time the best Mexican player out there.

Those will certainly be exciting words for Rangers fans to hear. Supporters are eagerly anticipating Caixinha making some signings and putting his own stamp on the team, tired of some of the first team stars that flopped in the Scottish Premiership this season.

According to reports in The Sun, West Ham United are lining up a move for out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer.

The 30-year-old was sent out on a season-long loan deal to Torino last summer after being told that he was surplus to requirements by Pep Guardiola, and that situation hasn’t changed after the England international returned to the Etihad with a long-term transfer to Serie A not on the cards.

The Irons are said to be ready to match Hart’s £100,000-a-week wages but would prefer to sign him on loan with a view to a permanent move, as they don’t believe they can afford his pay packet and the £18m fee City want.

According to the O Jogo (via HITC), Tottenham, Everton and West Ham are all chasing highly-rated Porto winger Yacine Brahimi.

What’s the Story?

In Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo, it was confirmed that Tottenham, Everton and West Ham were all interested in the possibility of signing Yacine Brahimi from Porto. The Algerian, who is valued at £15.3million by Transfermarkt, has thrown himself into the European spotlight after a number of match winning performances in Liga NOS last season.

It is thought that all three interested Premier League clubs will be willing to make a bid for the Porto star, who will turn 28 next February.

How good was Brahimi last season?

Consistent. The Algerian featured 27 times in all competitions for Porto and contributed with seven goals and three assists. Used predominantly on the left, the 27-year-old particularly impressed with his dribbling skills, along with his ability to keep hold of the ball and dance around tackles.

Brahimi was one of Porto’s most consistent players last season and has certainly left a lasting impression on many a watching scout.

Where will Brahimi end up next season?

A tough call. While Tottenham are yet to sign anyone during this transfer window, a player like Brahimi may find his time limited at Wembley and frustration could set in.

Everton have been spending big this summer already and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they invested further. However, other signings are clearly further ahead of Brahimi in the Toffees most wanted list.

However, West Ham are desperate to invest in some talent and would love to unearth a creative playmaker who can actually make a real difference in the league. London Stadium therefore, seems the Algerian’s most likely destination.
