Crystal Palace: Fans react to Noni Madueke rumours

Many Crystal Palace fans have been voicing their delight on Twitter after prominent COPA 90 journalist and Eagles supporter Harvey Wheddon suggested that the club will attempt to acquire PSV Eindhoven youngster Noni Madueke.

No stranger to English football, the London-born talent started his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur before swapping the Premier League for the Eredivisie.

There could now be a surprise twist in the tale according to Wheddon, who signified that a move to London could be back on as he tweeted:

“Noni Madueke from PSV.

“Heard a few rumours last night linking us with a potential move for him but wasn’t sure how legit they were…

“Have been told today that we are going to “test the water” with a bid for Madueke. #CPFC #PSV #Madueke”

Excelling with the Eredivisie runners up in 2020/21, the 19-year-old chipped in with 17 goal contributions in 32 outings for his current employers, with nine goals and eight assists to his name [Transfermarkt].

After recently securing the signature of Chelsea defender Marc Guehi along with Michael Olise from Reading, Palace fans will likely be excited for further summer acquisitions.

In light of these rumours, many Eagles fans took to Twitter to revel in this latest claim.

MCFC fans rage at Jesus news

Manchester City fans were livid after it was revealed Juventus are interested in signing Gabriel Jesus on loan without an obligation to buy.

Brazil international Jesus made the move to City in 2017 from Palmeiras in his homeland, and has done relatively well with the Citizens. In 195 games for the club, he has managed 82 goals as well as 32 assists even though he has not always been a guaranteed starter under Pep Guardiola (Transfermarkt).

However, he managed just nine goals in 29 Premier League appearances last term and came in for criticism from the club’s supporters as well.

Now, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, he may leave the Etihad Stadium this summer to move to Juve. It has been suggested the deal could be for a loan, with the Italian outfit not needing to commit to a permanent transfer.

The news was shared on Twitter by City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Jesus news below

Norris expects LUFC European push

Like Wolves did in their second season in the Premier League two years back, David Norris believes that his former side Leeds could qualify for Europe next term.

Having finished their campaign with four straight victories, part of a run of just one defeat in 11 Premier League games, the Yorkshire outfit came ninth, which ended up being just three points behind seventh-place Tottenham and the UEFA Conference League.

During that run of results, Marcelo Bielsa’s team managed to remain unbeaten against five of the traditional top-six, whilst they also took a point off Arsenal in November and ran Liverpool close on the opening-day.

But their best result of the campaign was a smash-and-grab victory at Manchester City earlier this month with 10 men, showing that they’re more than capable of competing with the best at this level.

Leeds must be wary they don’t suffer from second season syndrome, especially having watched their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United fall into that trap and get relegated this season.

But ex-midfielder Norris exclusively told Football FanCast that Bielsa’s team are too good for that to happen:

“Teams will have a lot more of an idea what Leeds are about. So that might be a big test and challenge in the second season, but I don’t think it’ll be enough to make them struggle.

“I’d expect to see them right up in the top-half and pushing for Europe next season.”

QPR interested in Chuks Aneke

Queens Park Rangers are interested in a deal to bring Chuks Aneke to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by TEAMtalk, who claim that QPR, along with Reading, Coventry City, Middlesborough and Bristol City, are keeping a close eye on the situation of the 27-year-old Charlton Athletic forward ahead of a potential move in the upcoming transfer window.

The £360k-rated support striker has been offered a new deal at The Valley, with his current contract in south-east London due to expire next month, however, with a host of Championship sides interested in his services, it appears unlikely Aneke will remain at the club beyond the summer.

Bhatia must move

Considering just how impressive Aneke was for Charlton this season, it is unsurprising that a number of second-tier sides are considering a move for the former Arsenal forward this summer.

Over his 38 League One appearances this season, only 11 of which came as starts, the 27-year-old scored 15 goals, registered two assists and created three big chances, as well as taking an average of 2.3 shots and making 0.6 key passes per game.

As a result of these returns, the forward earned a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Nigel Adkins’ fifth-best performer in the third tier of English football.

What makes his metrics all the more impressive is the fact that £5.4k-per-week Aneke only averaged a mere 40 minutes on the pitch over his 38 league fixtures, demonstrating that he very much has the ability to come on and change a game.

As such, it would appear highly advisable for Amit Bhatia to do all he can to get a deal over the line for the forward this summer, as Aneke very much seems to possess the ability to play an important role in QPR’s squad next season – as Mark Warburton looks to build a side capable of mounting a push for the play-offs.

And, with the man who Lee Bowyer dubbed as “unplayable” looking likely to be available on a free transfer, a move for the 27-year-old would not only improve Warburton’s options in attack, but would also be an extremely cost-effective signing for the Rs.

Villa could land a transfer bargain in Ashley Young

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith could land a transfer bargain by signing Ashley Young on a free transfer this summer.

What’s the story?

The Athletic claim that Villa are interested in bringing the former England international back to the club, as they look to strengthen their options at full-back and on the wing.

It’s added that the 35-year-old will be allowed to leave Serie A giants Inter, and that Villa have already asked about whether he would consider a return to Villa Park.

The report claims that: “Smith sees Young as an ideal option as he can play on both flanks and would bring with him a significant amount of experience.”

Would be a leader for Dean Smith

While at 35, Young is hardly someone who would take Villa to the next step or be a real game-changing signing, the fact that he’s so versatile, would be available on a free once his contract at Inter expires, and has tonnes of Premier League experiences, makes him a dream signing for Johan Lange.

Smith has already indicated this summer that he’s looking for that sweet spot of players who are British and have Premier League experience so that they can hit the ground running, and Young fits that bill to a tee.

Not only that, but the man with 83 goals and 121 assists to his name in his career, would also offer a real sense of leadership and experience to the dressing room, and it’s something that Eric Steele, his former coach at Manchester United has waxed lyrical about.

He said: “I don’t think people should underestimate the role he has had within the football club as well as the team. You need leadership. When I was at the club you wouldn’t go anywhere near the training ground dressing room because you had people like Gary Neville, quite right, who would monitor it. Ashley Young has followed on in that tradition. There is unseen work he’s put in.

“I think Ashley’s been a terrific signing for the club. He was in the bracket of the great pros from my time. He could have a joke, but when it was needed he wasn’t scared to give an opinion. He is a fit boy. He recovers the right way. I can see him play another two or three years. He is a gym animal.”

With him having already played 190 games for Villa and enjoying a really successful spell there – he scored 37 goals and provided 59 assists in his time there – fans would surely be buzzing at the prospect of seeing him make a return.

Meanwhile, Villa could deliver another Buendia masterclass…

Dia could be West Ham’s next Antonio

West Ham United could revisit one of their January targets in a bid to bolster David Moyes’ frontline this summer…

What’s the word?

According to ActuSport (via Arena Napoli), the Irons are willing to bring the Reims striker to the Premier League but they face competition from Serie A duo Napoli and Fiorentina.

At the turn of the year, Sky Sports reported that Dia was being targeted as a possible replacement for Sebastian Haller, who left for Ajax and is a player to whom the Hammers are yet to find a viable successor.

The 24-year-old forward is allowed to leave the Ligue 1 outfit this summer, as revealed by club president Jean-Pierre Caillot to Canal Plus. It is thought that €15m (£13m) would be enough to secure his signature.

Antonio 2.0?

A new signing in the striker department must be paramount to West Ham’s plans this summer and given that their target man experiment with Haller failed so dismally, they could do no harm in finding a like-for-like forward to play second fiddle to Michail Antonio.

In Dia, they could well be getting an exact prototype. The Senegal international is powerful, has explosive pace and can be a real nuisance for the opposition’s defence – very much like the 31-year-old is for Moyes in the Premier League.

He has enjoyed an impressive campaign for Reims this term, scoring 16 times in 36 domestic appearances, via Transfermarkt, which is seven more than any player at the London Stadium right now.

Former Irons forward Marlon Harewood backed the club to sign him in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast back in January, claiming that he could be “another Antonio.”

He added: “That’s the sort of player that West Ham need upfront, to help him out by playing both of them or when Antonio’s not playing, he’s the same type of player that West Ham need running the frontline.”

Indeed, the 5 foot 11 dynamo is no towering presence up top and is the same height as Antonio. He has averaged 1.4 dribbles and 1.7 shots per game in Ligue 1 this campaign, via WhoScored, which isn’t too far away from the West Ham star’s 1.6 dribbles and 2.4 shots per match, especially considering he’s the one playing in the better team.

Ligue 1’s official website adds further weight to the argument, claiming that Dia is very direct and likes to play off the shoulder of the defender. Again, that’s just like Antonio.

For just £13m, Sullivan and co could land Moyes an absolute bargain and an ideal solution to their striking problems.

CPFC: Fans hail Eze for off-field activity

A number of Crystal Palace fans have been sharing their love for Eberechi Eze on social media after a story emerged on Twitter regarding the 22-year-old.

Eze has been a regular under Roy Hodgson in an impressive first season in the top flight, missing just two Premier League games to date in the current campaign.

@GilesyL14 shared a post on Eze on Thursday evening, where a Facebook user claimed the attacking midfielder has been quietly helping with foodbank drop-offs.

Eze, on £30,000-a-week, has been dropping off hot meals to people in need on any Sunday he has available.

The story, which is available to view in full here, also added that Eze turned up to help out with a cracked windscreen after a ball hit his vehicle at Palace’s training ground.

Ex-MUFC man slates Woodward decision

Former Manchester United winger Keith Gillespie believes that the resignation of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is no surprise and has told The Transfer Tavern that he deserves immense criticism for his pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

The Borussia Dortmund winger was the club’s first-choice target in the summer transfer window, per The Athletic.

Sancho would have cost around €120m (£103.7m) but United, per the report, did not expect the Bundesliga club to stand firm on that price.

They did, and Sancho remained with Dortmund, where he has gone on to score six goals and lay on 11 assists in 23 league games.

Reports suggest United could go back in with another bid this summer and Gillespie believes that Woodward’s dithering has characterised the club’s transfer policy across the past few years.

He will stay in his role until the summer but he is not likely to be anywhere near the club’s recruitment plans in that transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to TT, he said: “Yeah it doesn’t surprise me at all, I think Man United fans have wanted him out for a long time.

“The transfer policy hasn’t been great over the last few years, the Sancho thing was just an absolute joke.

“If you know you’re not going to get him, or you know it’s going to take 10 million more, pay that, just don’t let it drag out and keep dragging all the way through.”

Spurs seriously eyeing Terzic

According to a report by Bild, via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘intensively considering’ Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic for the managerial role – with the German set to depart his current club at the end of this season.

The Lowdown: New candidate emerges…

There have been several names linked to the Tottenham Hotspur vacancy over the last month, but Dortmund boss Terzic has emerged as a new name.

The likes of Graham Potter, Roberto Martinez and Scott Parker have been repeatedly mentioned as main candidates but the emergence of Terzic could throw a spanner in the managerial works and give chairman Daniel Levy a fresh dilemma.

The Latest: Spurs now ‘intensively considering’ Terzic

Bild (via Sport Witness) emphatically claim that Tottenham and Levy are now seriously eyeing the 38-year-old as an option, coming after reports suggested they want someone ‘young’ and ‘dynamic’ (The Daily Mail).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-gossip/” title=”Spurs gossip” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Terzic is set to leave Dortmund in the summer, prompting this Spurs interest, and it is said that he could well opt for a move back to England.

The fact he is ‘young’, ‘eloquent’ and ’emotional’ is apparently a huge draw for Spurs – as well as the fact he speaks English fluently and ‘knows the Premier League’.

He once worked under Slaven Bilic at West Ham United and the success of both Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel has led to coaches from the Bundesliga becoming more and more popular.

Spurs are now seriously considering his appointment as a result, but face competition from both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

The Verdict: Credible candidate?

Having also worked with Klopp during his time in charge at Dortmund, Terzic is fairly new to assuming the head coaching role at any club.

All of his previous jobs have been working as an assistant or scout, but as interim boss of Dortmund for a portion of the 2020/2021 season, he has arguably displayed his metal.

Terzic has guided BVB to a German Cup triumph this season and you can argue his tenure under Klopp is an attractive incentive to consider his appointment.

Dortmund midfield ace Mahmoud Dahoud, speaking to SPORT 1 (via archyde.com), lauded Terzic as a ‘passionate’ and ‘crazy’ manager who ‘works meticulously’ to ensure his sides play perfect football.

As Tottenham attempt to start a new era and put the Jose Mourinho days behind them, Terzic could be exactly the kind of manager to assist them.

Rodgers must give Dewsbury-Hall LCFC chance

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall continues to catch the eye away from Leicester City.

The Foxes’ academy graduate is in the midst of another extremely profitable loan deal with Luton Town, form that should see him rewarded a place within Brendan Rodgers’ squad in 2021/22.

Rated at just £1.8m, the 22-year-old has taken to life in the Championship expertly.

In 32 appearances for the Hatters in all competitions, Dewsbury-Hall has netted two goals and four assists from the centre of the park.

As a matter of fact, he has started 29 of the club’s 31 league matches this season as Nathan Jones aims to steer them to a third successive season of Championship football.

The former Stoke City boss has been full of praise for Dewsbury-Hall, labelling his performances as “pure class”.

The midfielder’s excellent spell at Kenilworth Road builds on another temporary venture away from the King Power Stadium as he scored four goals in League One with Blackpool in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leicester-city-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more” title=”Latest Leicester City news, transfer rumours and more…”]

Naturally then, there should certainly be questions over whether Dewsbury-Hall is ready to take that next step into the Premier League but considering his progression thus far, he could compete excellently.

That is certainly what he needs to do back at Leicester City.

A forward-thinking midfielder, the youngster could provide excellent competition for the likes of Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet.

Considering that the Foxes could be embarking on yet another European campaign next year, strength in depth could be crucial to cope with injuries or to give others a break.

After all, Praet has been missed for large spells of this season whilst Tielemans has only been absent for two matches in all competitions himself.

The introduction of Dewsbury-Hall then after an excellent season could well be a clever and shrewd move from Rodgers.
